Walgreens creates a safe and secure shopping experience

The Challenge

Walgreens sought to create a safe and secure environment for customers and employees at its flagship store in Chicago’s historic Bucktown/Wicker Park area, while preserving the architecture and unique character of the building.

The Solution

More than 60 DINION and FLEXIDOME cameras provided detailed video throughout the store, including parking areas, entrances, and point-of-sale locations. Mobile video access enabled store managers and asset protection officers to view video remotely.

The Results

The video solution supported a safe and secure shopping environment while giving Walgreens teams greater visibility into store operations. Mobile access also helped managers monitor inventory and personnel and enabled asset protection teams to respond to security needs.

The flagship stores are centers of excellence where new technologies are tested for creative solutions that enhance the customer wellness experience and benefit store operations.

Mobile access for managers and asset protection teams

The Challenge

Walgreens is one of America’s largest drugstore chains, operating approximately 8,000 locations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

For its flagship store in the historic Noel State Bank building in Chicago’s Bucktown/Wicker Park area, Walgreens required a state-of-the-art video security solution. The company wanted to create a safe and secure environment for customers and employees while preserving the building’s distinctive architecture.

The location was designed to offer a unique shopping experience and represented Walgreens’ efforts to explore innovative approaches to retail and customer service.

The Solution

More than 60 DINION and FLEXIDOME cameras were installed throughout the store to provide comprehensive video coverage.

The HD cameras delivered detailed images in parking areas and at point-of-sale locations and captured images of shoppers entering the store. Their coverage capabilities allowed Walgreens to monitor more area with fewer devices.

Many cameras were positioned at angles designed to provide clearer views of transactions when video review was required.

Store managers and company asset protection security officers could also view video using iPads. This mobile access extended visibility beyond the traditional security workstation and allowed authorized personnel to access video when and where it was needed.

The Results

The video security solution helped Walgreens create a safe and secure environment for shoppers and employees while supporting the needs of a distinctive retail location.

Mobile access expanded the value of video beyond traditional security applications. Store managers could use video to check inventory and help manage personnel to serve customers more efficiently. Asset protection officers could use the same system to help protect customers, employees, and merchandise and to assist law enforcement when necessary.

The installation demonstrated how video could support both security and store operations while giving Walgreens teams greater visibility into what was happening throughout the retail environment.
